Why Education Needs to Change

The world is changing rapidly and education needs to adapt.

Millions of new opportunities will open up for those who possess adaptability, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. Yet many schools still prioritise memorisation over creativity, standardised tests over emotional intelligence, and rigid curriculums that leave essential life skills behind.

  • By 2030, 22% of current jobs will be significantly transformed due to automation and AI (World Economic Forum, 2025)
  • Studies show that adaptability, resilience, and critical thinking are more important than ever for future success. (OECD, 2023)
  • Analytical thinking, lifelong learning and problem solving are the most in-demand skills (Future of Jobs Report, 2025)

At Learnlife, we embrace this change, empowering your child with the skills and confidence to thrive in school and life.

What a Day at Learnlife Looks Like - Structure, Freedom and Joy

We give learners the freedom to find their own path within a structured schedule. Building blocks are like subjects and give structure to the day.

Our schedule runs Monday to Thursday from 09:00 to 16:30, and Fridays from 09:00 to 13:30. Below is an example of what a typical day for a primary learner looks like.

Children are greeted at the gate (often with a hug!) by our wonderful community host.

Every day starts with a wellbeing check-in. Learners connect with themselves, others, and the world by sharing their feelings, experiences, and beliefs.

Learners take part in themed workshops to improve their written and spoken communication skills. These activities help them understand language better and boost their literacy skills.

Learners enjoy a snack, some rest and playtime at the local park and football pitch.

Learners experience a dynamic environment where they build their math skills through fun challenges and guided math sessions, helping them understand and enjoy mathematics more deeply.

Learners immerse themselves in real-world topics and projects that are meaningful to them. By researching, connecting with a relevant audience, and creating a public product, they gain a better understanding of the subject and link it to their experiences and knowledge.

Learners enjoy lunch together as a community and have free play time.

In Connect, learners discover a sense of wonder and connection to the different cultures and natural systems in our world. They learn to appreciate and take responsibility for caring for the environment around them.

In Imagine, learners play, explore and discover what they love. They can work with different materials, join skill-building workshops, or take on self-guided projects. They refine these projects based on feedback and present them to an audience.

Learners can leave at 14:30. If they stay, they relax with a 15-minute breather.

Learners take part in various activities that support their wellbeing. These include playing sports and engaging in self-guided activities like reading.

Learners head home after a fun and busy day.

FAQs

Yes. Our curriculum, called the Learnlife Competency Model, is recognised as a leading global education innovation. It’s built on years of research and best practices from pioneering educators around the world.

It aligns with the local Ministry of Education while integrating the critical skills learners need for a thriving future. These skills are embedded in our five key learning domains and delivered through what we call our Building Blocks:

  • Learning to Be

  • Learning to Think

  • Learning to Learn

  • Learning to Relate

  • Learning to Act

Our learning experiences promote agency, are rooted in real-world relevance, and draw from a variety of methodologies. We also integrate complementary resources such as Innovamat for mathematics, Super Lletres for Spanish, and Read Write Inc for early English phonics.

We prioritise deep learning and foundational skill development in everything we do.

Through our competency model, learners build strong academic foundations across literacy, numeracy, science, and other key domains, integrated with real-world application.

Our interdisciplinary approach connects learning across subjects and fosters skills such as critical thinking, collaboration and creativity.

Resources like Innovamat, Read Write Inc., and Super Lletres ensure structured progression in core subjects.

Regular reflection, feedback, and authentic assessment help learners understand where they are and what’s next, while building confidence and independence.

En nuestro enfoque multidisciplinar del aprendizaje, integramos las asignaturas tradicionales en todas las experiencias de aprendizaje.

We focus on authentic, competency-based assessment rather than traditional exams or grades.

Progress is captured throughout the year using the Learning Vitae, a dynamic tool that offers a holistic view of each learner’s growth. It provides clear insights into where learners are in their journey and includes tangible evidence of their achievements.

In addition, primary learners share and reflect on their learning through:

  • Showcases: Held once per cycle, these community events allow learners to present their work and celebrate progress with their families.

  • Learner-led Conferences (360s): At the end of each cycle, learners reflect on their goals and share their growth with their families and learning guide. Parents also have the chance to contribute feedback.

We take a multilingual approach, with English as our primary language of instruction.

Our daily schedule includes dedicated English and Spanish literacy sessions through our Wordshop Building Blocks, ensuring learners develop strong written and oral skills in both languages. Equal time is devoted to instruction in each.

Yes. Our team includes qualified educators as well as individuals with rich professional experience from a variety of sectors.

Beyond credentials, we prioritise cultural fit, shared values, and the ability to build meaningful relationships with learners. This helps us create a vibrant, nurturing learning culture.

We provide a carefully scaffolded environment that blends freedom with structure, especially for our primary learners.

Our learning spaces and daily rhythms are intentionally designed to help children feel safe, guided, and empowered. While we encourage exploration, creativity and autonomy, these are always supported by clear routines, expectations and a nurturing learning guide by their side.

Learning is hands-on, play-based and experiential offering choice within a framework. This helps primary-aged children build confidence, develop self-regulation and take increasing ownership of their learning journey, at a pace that’s right for them.

As is the case in any environment with young learners, helping them navigate feelings, social interactions, and big emotions plays a key role at our Hubs.

Every child has their own unique strengths and we’re here to celebrate and support those.

When additional support is needed (whether diagnosed or identified by our team), we collaborate closely with families to co-create an individualised learning plan. These plans evolve with the learner and focus on their goals, strengths and needs.

Support is led by our Learning Support Lead and may include:

  • Learning Guides and Assistants

  • Personalised plans

  • Coordination with external specialists (e.g. psychologists, speech therapists)

Areas of support include:

  • Language acquisition for non-native speakers

  • Executive functioning, literacy, and numeracy

  • Social-emotional growth and wellbeing

  • Pathways for gifted learners

To ensure balance, we limit the number of high-support learners per Hub.

All our Hubs are accessible by public transport and car. Many families live nearby in international communities like Barcelona, Castelldefels and Sitges.

Families take public transport, drive, or arrange carpools, especially for the Castelldefels and Sitges Hubs if they live in Barcelona.

Travel times from central Barcelona:

  • Eco Hub: ~30 minutes by car (23km)
  • Village Hub: ~45 minutes by car (45km)

Our community is globally diverse, with families from 32 nationalities across five continents. The most common nationalities include Spain (25%), the USA (19%), the UK (9%), and Israel/Germany (6%).

We provide a comprehensive transition programme and onboarding process for learners continuing into our secondary programme.

For those moving to a different school, we support the transition by sharing transcripts and making time for transition-related activities.
